No matter the time of day or temperature outside, people of all ages and abilities are staying active in Hickory. In the City’s recent study on identifying Hickory’s brand, “Life. Well Crafted.” it was mentioned in the plan over and over the importance of activity in the community, from physical fitness to festivals, events and programs. Hickory has kicked off a pilot project this year called “Active. Well Crafted.” and participants who partake in “Active. Well Crafted.” events will receive prizes including shirts, cups, gift certificates, Crawdads tickets, hats, and more. Most events are established activities and free of charge.
“Being active is anything from walking a few times a week to training for marathons and more, and we want to celebrate those in our community who are active, and hopefully encourage others to get active in 2013,”said City of Hickory Communications Director and Brand Manager Mandy Pitts.
Who is eligible: All City of Hickory residents and employees of the“Active. Well Crafted.” partners are eligible to participate.
Partners: Include the City of Hickory “Life. Well Crafted.” brand, Hickory Parks and Recreation Department, Hickory Foundation YMCA,Fleet Feet Sports of Hickory, Rock N Road Bicycles, Outdoor Supply Company, Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory Crawdads, and Hickory Public Schools.
Cost: There is no cost to participate in the program, and a majority ofthe “Active. Well Crafted.” activities are free.
Prizes: Prizes will be given to participants that complete three different events in different months. Prize levels are still being determined,and there will be prizes up to anyone who participates in at least one event on the list every month.
