Well Crafted.” Design Competition named during November 5 receptionFrom traditional to contemporary, in colors from bright orange-yellow based patchwork to soft white leather, the 23 chairs in the inaugural “Furniture. Well Crafted.” Design Competition made an exceptional impression to furniture makers and executives, journalists for furniture publications, and local officials earlier this week. The 23 chairs represent the entire Hickory Metro which includes cities and towns in Catawba, Alexander, Burke, and Caldwell Counties. The chairs arrived at the SALT Block in the North Lobby next to Catawba Science Center’s “Furniture. Well Crafted.” exhibit on November 3. All labels were removed from the chairs and numbered 1 to 23.

Oktoberfest Each year Downtown Hickory hosts Oktoberfest, the city’s largest street festival. 2015’s event will be held in October, and details will follow soon. OcktoberFest Sponsored by Hickory Downtown Development AuthorityThe excitement is building as the much anticipated 29th Annual Hickory Oktoberfest comes to Downtown Hickory. Oktoberfest always happens on the second weekend in October. 2014’s festival happens on Friday, October 10 (5:00 pm to 11:00 pm with lunch served in the Food Court at noon), Saturday, October 11 (10:00 am to 11:00 pm) and Sunday, October 12 (Noon until 5:00 pm). There will be a foot race, amusement rides, food, shopping, arts and crafts, demonstrations and of course, music!
