Catawba, North Carolina

The Town of Catawba is one of the oldest town between Salisbury and Asheville. It was a railroad station in the early 1800’s. In 1872 the Catawba Station was built. The town grew up around the depot. Unfortunately, Stoneman’s Raiders burned the depot as they tore through the town.

The school opened in 1890, which was one of the first schools in the County. The town was originally a cotton producing town, and they shipped fiber and tobacco all across the country, using the trains.

Today Catawba is a lovely, quaint small town. It is a place where everyone knows everyone else, and they smile and give a “Good Morning” when they pass each other.
