Hickory Sheet Metal-84 Years Strong

In 1928, Hickory, North Carolina, was becoming a hotbed of manufacturing activity. It was during this boom that one of Hickory’s most enduring businesses was born: Hickory Sheet Metal opened to fill the growing need for sheet metal for construction projects, as well as furnace installation. “Mr. Lee” Huffman quickly developed an excellent reputation, and that solidified his company’s lasting home in the Catawba Valley.

The company opened in the upstairs of a building that sat across from Hickory’s Municipal Building. All of the equipment and each sheet metal project had to be carried up a flight of stairs, no small task. In addition to the talent and skills of the workers, it was brute strength that allowed the company to thrive in its earliest y ears. Now the business is located on Highland Avenue, and the facilities are much more expansive and accessible.
